Caloric Intake During Pregnancy
Recent studies are showing that only 1/3 of women are gaining the recommended amount of weight during pregnancy, with 21% gaining too little, and 48% gaining too much. It is generally recommended that, in the first trimester, no additional calories are required per day, during the second trimester 340 additional calories are recommended per day, and 450 additional calories are recommended per day in the third trimester. However weight gain will be different if a woman's BMI is above or below the recommended level. It is important to talk to a healthcare provider to help decide what is best for you.
