Job Description: Physician Assistant or Family Nurse Practitioner

  • Location: COLFS Medical Clinic, Escondido, CA
  • Status: Full Time Role
  • Reports To: Lead Physician

About the Role

We are seeking a hard-working, detail-oriented Physician’s Assistant (PA) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) to provide high quality care. This individual must be a quick learner and able to perform in a stressful/busy environment as part of a highly functioning team. In performing duties for this role the individual will:

  • Follow COLFS Clinic policies
  • Assess patient symptoms; inquire into the nature of their illness or injury
  • Accurately identify and diagnose medical conditions
  • Thoroughly examine patients and attend to their chief complaint
  • Answer and advise on other questions or concerns patient might have
  • Assign appropriate treatment plan according to each patient’s needs
  • Educate and inform patient of necessary treatment plan and any follow-up appointments
  • Perform clinical tests to better inform diagnosis
  • Perform in-office treatment if needed (this may include medically necessary procedures)
  • Look for anything unusual or abnormal
  • Prescribe appropriate medicines or therapy
  • Calculate correct medication dosage for each patient and educate on proper use
  • Order outside diagnostic tests and lab work as needed (blood/urine test, tissue samples, imagery, etc.
  • Analyze and share results of diagnostic testing with patients
  • Complete documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Comply with electronic medical record requirements, including medication reconciliation and finalizing notes
  • Conduct follow-ups with patients to monitor and track their condition and progress
  • Refer patient to a medical specialist when needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and always work with respect and integrity
  • Encourage preventative health measures including proper diet, rest and exercise
  • Adheres to approved California Department of Public Health infection control policies and protocols
  • Learn and promote Natural Procreative Technology (naprotechnology.com)
  • Participates in clinic on-call schedule in a responsive and timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor; travel may be required

Qualifications:

  • Expresses full agreement with corporation’s Mission Statement
  • Complies with the policies and procedures of the Medical Clinic
  • Is dependable, stable, and capable of following through on commitments
  • Has a desire to reach out to at-risk patients considering abortion
  • Maintains a consistent life-affirming philosophy and would never refer or advise a patient to have an abortion. (i.e., when a situation arises where a mother’s life is at risk, the Medical Clinic advocates taking measures to preserve her life, hoping that the mother and her child can both be saved)
  • Respects confidentiality and upholds privacy per HIPAA
  • Holds an active PA license from the State of California Board
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal, spiritual and administrative skills, takes initiative and is flexible
  • Physically able to stand for long periods of time, has good eyesight or corrected vision, has steady hands, and has a good bedside manner
  • Skilled with current technology and able to learn new skills quickly

Education, Licenses, and Certifications:

  • Must possess current unrestricted PA license to practice in the State of California
  • DEA license
  • Must maintain required accreditations and licenses
  • Current Compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty as appropriate

Management Support Duties:

  • Works with the Medical Director to help develop, maintain, review and update Medical Clinic
  • Follows policies and procedures
  • Maintains a working knowledge of PA methods, principles, and practices in relation to the prevention and treatment of disease, safety and infection control, clinical systems, supplies and equipment
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA & HIPAA guidelines
  • Responsible for Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)

Professional Development Responsibilities:

  • Participates in in-service meetings
  • Maintains professional license
  • Increases knowledge of management, obstetrical, gynecological care and patient’s health issues
  • Participates in annual skills refresher and assessment for competency
